2008 Veeck's Wrecks
OFFENSE OBP .349 6th. The left side of the
infield there are a couple of offensive stars with Derek Jeter and 2007's 13th round
pick and ROY, Ryan Braun. Derek Jeter has a respectable .388 obp but both
Jeter and Braun struck out over 100 times. There are some decent platoons
in the outfield. Curtis Granderson will probably only play against righties
where his obp is a close to .400. Hunter Pence is a nice option against
lefties with his .400 obp against them. Not much power in the outfield and
I was ready to ding the team based on only having Braun as a legitimate HR threat
but the teams SPC is .456. 16 point over average as there is decent double
power all through out the roster. RATING 5
STARTING PITCHING ERA 3.88 7th Kelvim Escobar Roy Halladay are great with
r/9 near 11.5 and HR/9 near .5. James Shields is the best of the bunch with
a r/9 10.4. Righties and Lefties OBP against is under .300 though he will give up
a HR more than one a game. Adam Wainwright has a great era but his 13 r/9
is a bit worrysome. Kenny Rodgers is a great number 5 starter.
RATING 7.5
RELIEF PITCHING Failed starter Aaron Heilman has turned into a great reliever
only allowing 2 wlkes per nine innings and less than 1 homer per 10 ip. Rafeal
Soriano is the best reliever here with his 70 ip and 62 runners allowed. Brian
Tallet is your guy if you absolutly cannot allow a HR as he allowed only 1 in 65
innings pitched. Jason Isringhausen is not your typical strikeout closer.
but his whip under 10 will make it a tough on the opponents. RATING 7
CATCHING Two full time catchers here and Ronny Paulino can really hit lefties,
while Brian Schneider's strength is his plus arm.
RATING 5.5
DEFENSE Fld% .981 20th Jeter is starting to deteriorate at SS, there are
no good options at 1b, the whole infield is pretty much under average. Granderson
is great in LF especially and Hunter Pence has nice range in RF but too many errors.
Catchers do look good behind the plate but Schneider who is better may not start
that often.
RATING 3
MANAGMENT Bob and Kevin are one
of the most succesful binary owners in the
league. The manager profiles are in early and often. They draft in a
well orginized fashion and get some nice stars late, like Ryan Braun in the 14th round last year, and Hunter Pence in the 15th RATING 9
